Flight

There once were two birds that sat in a tree

They lived in close yet platonic harmony

One was a male, older the world he had seen

The other a hen so sadly naive

She saw the world from the top down

While the other viewed it as if from the ground

One day she left the tree

He stayed never saying stay with me

She stayed away past the changing of the leaves

He wondered if this meant she had left indefinitely

Then the heat came back to the air

That’s when he saw her fluttering there

By the roots of their tree

Singing sweetly please help me

He patched her broken wing

Helped her to once again sing

But the leaves changed with winter’s blight

And once again she took flight

Then it was clear for him to see

She would always leave
